With more time (8 hours), it's possible to visit the most important sites and monuments, as well as finding somewhere special for lunch. The choice is yours, but you may want to see inside  two or three of the following -

Westminster Abbey
The beautiful medieval church where Prince William and Kate Middleton married, and where the coronation takes place, is also our national memorial church

St Paul's Cathedral
London's cathedral, designed by the great 17th century architect Sir Christopher Wren

Buckingham Palace and the Royal Mews
The Queen's London residence is open to the public in August and September, when Her Majesty is away on holiday in Scotland. For the rest of the year the Royal Mews are open, and here you can see the horses, carriages and cars used on special occasions, including the magnificent Gold State Coach.
During the Summer Opening at Buckingham Palace in 2013 there will be an exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Queen's coronation.

Kensington Palace
Kensington Palace was the birthplace and childhood home of Queen Victoria, as well as more recently being the home of the Queen's sister Princess Margaret and of Princess Diana. Now the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge are planning an apartment here, and Prince Harry will take over one of the 'cottages' in the grounds.

Tower of London
The imposing castle built nearly 1000 years ago by William the Conqueror, now home to the Crown Jewels, the Beefeaters, the ravens, and possibly the ghosts of prisoners executed here!

Tower Bridge
Gateway to London, this iconic 19th century bridge was also a pioneering engineering work

British Museum
The British Museum's collections span ancient civilisations and the early history of Britain. It's highlights include the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon Sculptures, Egyptian Mummies, the Sutton Hoo Ship Burial & the Lewis Chessmen
In 2013 the British Museum is staging major exhibitions on "Ice Age Art: Arrival of the Modern Mind" and "Life & Death in Pompeii & Herculaneum".

National Gallery
One of the world's great art galleries, with a collection that includes Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, Van Eyck, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Constable, Turner, Monet, Van Gogh, and Picasso.

Tate Galleries
Tate Britain and Tate Modern house our national collections of British and modern art.
Exhibitions in 2013 will include "Lichtenstein: A Retrospective", "Schwitters in Britain", "Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life", and "Paul Klee".
